  1. MnPAVE Flexible is a computer program that combines known empirical relationships with a representation of the. Physics and mechanics behind flexible pavement behavior. The mechanistic portions of the program rely on finding the tensile strain at the bottom of the asphalt layer, the compressive strain at the top of the subgrade, and the maximum.
  2. Design Guide (MEPDG), and (3) the ACPA method for bonded concrete overlays on asphalt (BCOA) pavements. The first method, the 1993 AASHTO Guide, is the procedure most commonly used today for concrete overlay thickness design. The MEPDG is currently being implemented and evaluated by numerous state DOTs and is therefore included here.

The Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) is being widely implemented and used by many highway agencies across the nation. As of 2007 (FHWA 2007), 80% of states have an MEPDG implementation plan and many of them consider the MEPDG. The Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG) was developed under National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Project 1-37A as a novel mechanistic-empirical procedure for the analysis and design of pavements. The MEPDG, published in 2008, was subsequently supported by AASHTO’s DARWin-ME pavement design software (starting in April 2011) and AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design was the next generation of pavement design software (as of February 2013).
